Introducing a New App: Doomscroll Killer
A year ago I passed a speed limit sign. Next to it was a LED screen showing my current speed, posted next to the static posted speed limit sign. Woah, 37 mph in a 25 zone? Better slow down.
This occurrence made me think about screen time. What if there were a similar intervention where real-time feedback helps curb your screen time behavior? We all spend too much time on our phones. Often our screen time is buried in settings or the user is notified about their weekly usage once a week. What if you could see your screen time live, in real time, overlaid over your other apps, ticking away while you go about your business on your phone? Wouldn’t this help curb your behavior? Just like that Doomscroll Killer was born.
I used Android Development Studio and ChatGPT and my novice coding knowledge to whip up a prototype and have spent the last year fine-tuning. The end result is simplicity itself. A real-time on-screen timer tracks total phone use per day. Users may drag the timer around for convenience, and automatically tracks time only while your screen is on, resetting at midnight every night. It’s offered for free for a 3-day trial, then just $0.99 to unlock. Only for Android at this time.
I genuinely believe it will have a positive impact in reducing screen time.
